David Pickford
David is a freelance photographer and writer, working for a wide range of media and business clients on an international basis. He is also one of the leading rock climbers in the UK, with an impressive portfolio of ascents from Britain and Europe to the mountains of Arabia, Central Asia, North Africa, and the Far East.
In 2003, David took the unconventional career move of riding a dilapidated Russian two-stroke motorcycle some 20,000 kilometres across East Asia, from Vietnam to Indonesia via China. It was on this expedition that a long-term interest in photography developed into a professional commitment to the camera, and became the perfect complement to another consuming passion: travel, documentary and essay writing. David combines his photography with written journalism for traditional and new media.
David’s list of professional clients is long and wide ranging.
Between a busy schedule of international projects, careering between continents armed with a bag of cameras, a notebook, and a pack full of climbing gear, David still finds time for pioneering new climbs around Britain. His longer trips often involve adventure motorcycling expeditions combined with rock climbing explorations, the most recent of which was a journey around the Indian subcontinent on an Enfield Bullet.
